In order to keep posting great student work (for free) I am moving my space over to Facebook. I'm also hoping that this way I can easily remind students of their homework assignments and so forth. It's been great seeing all of the stats and comments from the world and I look forward to seeing you at the new site :D CLICK HERE TO GO TOMs. George-Eastonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15599355660501416183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465966560879276884.post-74586276976810568202014-04-06T11:17:00.003-04:002014-04-06T11:20:14.425-04:00Checking InHello World!
I've had an amazing time off with my little baby BOY! Miles arrived two weeks early into our eager arms band has constantly enchanted us :) Motherhood has definitely been the most wonderful experience I've ever had. I think that Canada is one of the best places on earth to have a baby, where our government will PAY us to take a year off to be with our little ones. I would like to thank all 45 000 of you who have stopped by here over the past few years, for sending so many encouraging messages to myself and my students. You will notice that I won't be updating this blog very much (if at all) during the next while, as I'm due to have a baby at the end of August and will take a year off. I'm really going to miss teaching and I will especially missMs. George-Eastonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15599355660501416183noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465966560879276884.post-27523574603379529502013-08-06T21:55:00.001-04:002013-08-06T21:55:19.345-04:00My Art Class- Video Trailer
In order to entice elementary students to come to our high school, teachers were asked to give interviews about what made their classroom and our school special. I decided to go one step further and turn my promo into a video trailer (so easy with iMovie!) which you can watch above. You can find the entire video about our school on the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board YouTube Ms. George-Eastonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15599355660501416183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465966560879276884.post-10220899434163479872013-06-02T18:23:00.000-04:002013-06-02T18:23:07.185-04:00Grade 11 Multimedia (AVI3M-AVI3O)These are actually from last semester. They're multimedia pieces- you take photographs printed on a laser printer (or photocopier) and transfer them onto canvas with gel medium, and from there it's up to you... most of these students added washes, splatters, paintings, drawings, etc.

He opened our eyes to racism, peace and equality- delivered with his great sense of humour. I wanted to have the semester go as smoothly as possible with tried and truly successful assignments. However, after a trip to Spain in March and seeing a lot of Gaudi and Picasso, I was inspired to make a new assignment for the grade 11 pastel unit. The students who drew these represent a variety of levels, from students who have never taken art before, to students who have taken for two years before. These drawings are also LARGE and were a very impressive addition to the display case at the front of our Ms. George-Eastonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15599355660501416183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465966560879276884.post-38517418065595554972013-06-02T17:15:00.003-04:002013-06-02T17:16:12.054-04:00Grade 10 Conte Drawings 2013 (AVI2O)These drawings are fantastic on the computer, but I wish you could see them up close- they're LARGE and even more impressive in person. I was very proud of this work, all showed the top skills of a variety of student levels.

What I love is how different each carving is, even if students use the same animal as their inspiration- the shape and colour of the stone will give them a truly unique creation each time.

Some of these are the student's own designs as well, but based on an artist from art history. These were done by our grade 11 visual art students.

I think I have converted some more students to conte and away from pencil- and you can see why- the pictures are bold, well drawn, and fast to create too.

Here are the results.

My students and I would like to thank all of the people who have come by to check out our art. We have had over 31 000 people stop by over the past two years, and we always look forward to seeing the comments and the number of visits.
Sincerely,

Learning to draw in a loose, expressive way can be difficult, especially for students who prefer a much more controlled way of working. Here are some examples of life drawing exercises that we completed together.

Sometimes it's hard to get into the groove of art when you've had months away from school, but everybody is really eager and excited to get back to work.
Here are some grade 10 "handscapes", a quick assignment to help the students refresh their skills. At the bottom you can see what steps Ms. George-Eastonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15599355660501416183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465966560879276884.post-83038250342890962782012-08-16T20:42:00.000-04:002012-08-16T20:42:29.639-04:00Beautiful Work!I was contacted at the end of the semester to see if any of my students would like to take on a private commission to paint a baby's room. With all of the talent in my class it was hard to recommend somebody specifically, but these two artistic sisters, Heather and Kelly, took on the challenge and created a really lovely piece that I'm sure will be enjoyed for years to come. I've ordered A LOT of books to go over, as I want to try to really change my program for the new semester. I usually add a project or two per year, but after 5+ years of similar assignments, I'm ready for some real changes. Stay tuned :)
The last assignment I will leave you with is a creative photography assignment.
